Another victim of Trespassing on private property off Sugar Lake Rd.  in the old quarry.  Sad to hear.  Thoughts and prayers with the family.:

This was his friend who drowned in June, family or friends stated that he was having a hard time coping with a recent loss of a friend that had recently passed.  All this has previously already been on the news

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — The body of a teen was recovered from a Chatham County lake on Monday morning.

The North Chatham Fire Department Dive Team recovered the body of 19-year-old Sean O’Donnell from Sugar Lake shortly before noon Monday, according to a news release from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.

Previously on the news, you say?  I scoured "the news" websites for the better part of a week and found no information pertaining to the massive police/emergency vehicles present at the quarry for several days.

Does not surprise.  imho , A lot of what happens in Chatham County never makes it in the "local" news from Raleigh/Durham/Greensboro.  We are in some sort of no man's land when it comes to Raleigh newspapers, Raleigh TV, Greensboro newspapers, Greensboro TV.   Raleigh is always reporting details of fairly minor things in Fayetteville, but, once you get past Apex going west on 64 - it's like we are not close enough be in their "market".   Maybe when Chatham Park becomes a metropolis, we will get more coverage.   Shocked

Pit quarries all over the US that have filled with water.  They're dangerous because they have no shoreline per say.  The shoreline is cliff.  The edges can go straight down 100 feet easily.  They have several of them back in Kansas, my grandfather would take me fishing at them which was legal and open to public for fishing only.  Even though I could swim, he always made men where a life vest when at the Pits.  You would throw your line out and your sinker would just keep dropping.  No matter how far you through your line out, It would end up going straight down where the tip of your fishing pole was.
