Randolph Telephone is holding an interest meeting to run fiber to the Silk Hope area. Many of us in the 336 area of NW Chatham already have access to fiber through RTELCO, it is more expensive than the big players but we have fiber in the country.

The meeting tonight, 5/15/17 is at the Silk Hope Community Center at 7PM for more information call 336-879-5684.

This may be the only chance for Silk Hope area residents to have a fiber infrastructure. Right now fiber is on the Silk Hope Liberty Rd to the Bowden Rd so it is not far away from the Crutchfields area.

Call Randolph Telephone, from a prior Chatlist posting it is my understanding that they need to hear from interested individuals about service, an email will not suffice.

We currently live off 15/501 but are considering moving to that area of Chatham County.  It is absolutely appalling that there is no internet service I can find in that area.  This is the 21st century.  And looking at Randolph they want over $150 for service and it's not even offered yet in the area we're looking at.  Who do we write or call in this state to get something moving in rural Chatham county?

The fact is the current Telco does not offer service, RTELCO is offering a service to an area in need, that is what you are wanting and they are stepping up. We have RTELCO fiber and have awesome service and speed, sure we pay for the convenience but after dumping Direct TV we are saving money.

Put it this way, because of my requesting fiber on our road (even though we already had DSL)and others signing up we live on one of the only fiber serviced areas in the NW. Granted, we have RTELCO telephone service in the 336 area code but we do have fiber. RTELCO responds to requests.

If you don't like what the Silk Hope area has to offer you may want to reconsider your move.

I was just stating I find it amazing that not every area has at least some form of high speed internet at this point.  I'm also willing to pay a little higher, although $170 seems steep.  Can't blame a company however for charging what the market is willing to bear, so good on them.

I called RTELCO today and did request my name be put on the list, which I hope is growing.

As for moving to the Silk Hope area, I'm doing it for several reasons, mainly because it is still countryside of what I grew up in elsewhere in NC (well at least as close as one can get in this region of NC it seems) and while being in somewhat of a community, there also seems to be a sense of minding your own business and not your neighbors.  Which sadly appears to be a dying idea...
