The bills would remove the special $200 tax and months-long registration process currently applied to silencers.

... The requirement that anyone buying a silencer from a licensed gun dealer pass a background check will remain.

...“This legislation will enable gun owners to have better access to hearing protection products and improve safety for the shooting sports by removing extensive wait times for burdensome paperwork processing that does not advance public safety,” said Lawrence Keane, senior vice president at the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

Stellar.  And it needs to be made "shall issue", not "may".

Really hope this happens.

It's just stupid for them to be regulated.  Even countries with super tight gun control, like England, allow people to buy suppressors.  In fact, they're sitting on the shelf at hardware stores.  Anyone that is even somewhat mechanically inclined can make a functional suppressor so long as they can find YouTube and a hardware store.  Materials for a decent one would run about $30.  Most people have what it would take to make one just floating around in the garage.

Real life isn't like the movies.  Hollywood would have you believe that a suppressed pistol is about as loud as a poodle fart.  That's not the case at all.  But suppressors do reduce the damage to one's hearing.  It helps new shooters focus on the fundamentals like trigger control, stance, and sight alignment.  That's an aspect that makes things SAFER for the new shooter.  Not to mention it enables people that want to shoot to be good neighbors by keeping the noise down.

The only real reasons people are against suppressors is because of a) ignorance and b) hoplophobia.
