All you lovers of native plants, mark your calendars now for the upcoming plant sale at the NC Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill.

Members get first pick of the vast array of perennials, grasses, shrubs, trees, and vines native to the southeastern US, and thus ideally adapted to our growing conditions -- and gorgeous too! Members-only night is FRIDAY, SEPT. 26 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Members get a chance to mingle with each other and the plants while enjoying refreshments and live music. All the staff will be there to answer any questions you have.

The sale continues on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. But if you want the best selection, come on Members Night. Not a member? You can join that night at the door and enjoy the discount that members always receive, along with first chance at the goodies.

Of course, all profits go to keeping the NC Botanical Garden -- our region's only public garden with a mission to help the public learn about and appreciate native plants -- going strong.

Come join the party, pick out some choice natives to enhance your landscape. You'll never regret going native.  Smiley

Greetings, plant lovers. Last night, I picked up some gorgeous, hard-to-find native perennials at the members' night plant sale of the NC Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill. The good news for those of you who weren't there last night is that the sale is open to the general public until noon today!

Zillions of healthy, special native trees, shrubs, perennials, ferns, and carnivorous plants are still waiting for good homes. And if you're a member who didn't make it there last night, your 10% discount will work today -- and every day. Plus, they've got a used garden book sale going on that you won't believe. Anything you can think of that is nature- or plant-related is there for the best prices you will ever find. They've even got two tables loaded with magazines that anyone can take FOR FREE! Do you know teachers who need magazines they can cut up for school projects? These magazines are loaded with wonderful photos of plants and animals.

And for those looking for a more Chatham-centric option, you should know that Cure Nursery, formerly a wholesale-only operation is now moving to a retail model. They sell weekly at the Chatham Mills Farmers' Market, but to see all their goodies, contact them for an appointment when you can stop by. They've been growing native plants for years. You won't be disappointed. They're updating their Web site, but their URL will take you to a page with their contact information: http://curenursery.com/WordPress/

This is a great weekend to plant some perennials, trees, shrubs, etc. We're promised rain late on Monday and into Tuesday, so your newly planted adoptees will settle in nicely.

Let's all get out there and get planting!
