That's okay. Didn't expect to have everyone vote in every category.

That's okay. Didn't expect to have everyone vote in every category. well, I hope not, I voted on categories I had personal experience with. that gives the whole thing credibility.

Got an email with the question - Who decided this list?
Answer - Over 450 folks who took the time to fill out the survey.

Everyone is eligible to vote.
We don't have the time, money or resources to go knocking door to door and ask folks questions. Doubt the US Census folks will add our survey questions to their list.
I started the survey years ago to help promote local business choices in Chatham County.
Actually a 450+ person sample is a pretty decent sample size.
Want YOUR business to do well in the survey? It's fairly simple Marketing 101. ASK YOUR customers to vote for YOU!
BTW, are you suggesting we should just scrap any type of "Best of Chatham" survey?

I appreciate your efforts Gene and I like the survey.
tritech, just like politics, decisions are made by the people that vote.
PS. While there were no winners from Siler City, there were numerous Honorable Mentions.

I just noticed a trend that bothers me about this first half of "best of Chatham" survey results. Not one single business chosen as "best" in any category is not in Pittsboro or somewhat north of it. Also, 450 people in a county with at least 20x that in population isn't a very large sample. I'm not making up conspiracy theories or anything...but it doesn't make sense to me that EVERY business that's the "best of CHATHAM" is in Pittsboro. Are most respondents from the general Pittsboro area, or does Siler City just stink that bad? I would love to know how many responses are from each city, so I can judge the results better. I would hate to think the city I live in has no good businesses just because it's not where the respondents live. I rather like the local businesses I work with in Siler City. There are a lot of awesome people here and ever since I moved here I have always felt welcome. I think that most readers of the BBS, therefore most respondents, are from the Pittsboro or North Chatham area. That makes sense because that's where the bulk of Chatham's population lies. It's a simple question of majority.

I don't recall "where do you live" as being one of the survey questions so I doubt the answer to your question is even known.

I want to know where the PBO voters live. People in NE PBO may favor businesses in that area instead of the South PBO businesses.

The majority of your statements are red herrings. I raised a very valid and important point about the results of this survey so far. You'll also note that my place of work is in a category which you haven't released results for before you continue to insinuate that I'm just complaining because "my place didn't win." You didn't address my primary question about where the 450+ survey responses are coming from, and that information is crucial. If a great majority of the responses came from Pittsboro and areas immediately north of Pittsboro, then the results are more useful to residents from there and less useful to Siler City, Bennett, etc. residents. If you are going to call it the "Best of Chatham County" then you need to at least make it clear how representative the results actually are of the entire county as a whole vs. a particular strip of the 15-501 corridor. I am fully aware that you don't have any money in the survey distribution, and I know what that means: whoever takes it, takes it, end of story. My point is that if a small minority of the responses were in Siler City, the results are inevitably not going to favor any Siler City businesses as "winners." Same for all the other smaller townships throughout the county. I want to know if 80% of your responses are Pittsboro citizens so I can decide i.e. that Siler City Automotive is not the "winner" because Performance Automotive happened to be where the majority of responses originated. If "it is what it is" then represent it as what it is. That's all I'm sayin'. Sorry. Don't buy the "Woe is me. The survey sucks because my business did not win" excuse. Want YOUR business to do well in the survey? It's fairly simple Marketing 101. ASK YOUR customers to vote for YOU!
