Title: Gov Roy Cooper just declared a state of emergency for North Carolina ~

Sept 6th ~ Irma is now the strongest hurricane in history in the Atlantic ~ models now show Irma turning north just prior to getting to Florida coast and hitting the Carolinas, just like Mathew did.  All the Florida keys are under mandatory evacuation, people are now scrambling inland.  No such thing as a no flood zone inland area when these monsters come through

This morning they have kept if farther south. I know it sounds selfish, I would almost rather it come up the east coast rather than go through the Gulf. If it goes through the Gulf we will all be paying 5 - 6.00 a gallon for gas in a couple weeks.

5. Fill every Tupperware with water and store in freezer. These will help keep food cold longer and serve as a back up water supply.

Plastic freezer bags are better -- more malleable to fill up whatever empty spaces there may be in the freezer.  Helps keeps everything cold longer.

I think parts of Raleigh were without power for a week when Mathew hit, that's what I'm more concerned about

My brother in law just got to Wilmington to his new house yesterday to this possible mess. I'm in Florida right now and just got done buttoning up this house with shutter and doing all the preps like water fuel for both generators and waiting to see where it goes.

Good luck to all of you up there.

Here in Chatham County we could experience tropical storm force winds as soon as Monday in the early a.m. Start preparing now, don't wait. Good luck, everyone.

You may have just gotten a break this thing is going up the whole of Florida on shore.  If things don't change in the next 24/36 hours were in a bad spot down here the whole east coast will be on the right side of the storm or the bad side as it were and were going to get hammered.

I'm liking the latest western turn model that takes brunt of it over GA/TN/ vs NC...not that I wish this thing upon anyone! It's been a monster.

The silver lining in that scenario is that will take it mostly over land. It should lose some potency before NC has to deal with it. Hopefully.

Amen ~ models now showing a high pressure may keep storm away from us and go father inland

You are correct the last reports showed it moving west of lake Okeechobee that puts you in the clear as far as anything heavy and takes me out of the eye wall.   So fr so good. I will get winds but not the worst it could have been once again so far.

Glad NC out of the worst so far. Don't trust the wobble potential in regard to paths.
Not looking good for a lot of FL. Hope folks will be able to find safe shelter somewhere there.

This is what's going to hit Florida ~ video title is wrong though, wind speeds were 185 mph that hit the islands

This is what's going to hit Florida

Ba enough it's going to make land fall on the west coast you put up nonsense with 200 mile an hour winds that isn't true. It never hit those speeds 185 was the most and it dropped from there and that was out at sea.  Storm is bad enough don't add to it.  Please.

GUSTS were likely higher, perhaps 200, than 185 (sustained) winds. May as well explain all of it. 185 or 200, meh~both destructive as we are seeing as reports come in.

I don't want to be in 45 gusts much less be in something like sustained winds of some of these vids coming out from Irma! Then again, after hurricane Fran, I'm a big 'chicken' ;D

Earned my chicken feather/stripes during Fran. 25+ trees down on property (and somehow none hit my house), but an expensive mess to clean up! Tornado spun off, twisted off top of a tall Poplar tree and then touched down and cut a path thru' woods maybe 300 yrds. away from me. YES, a tornado does sound like a train..I eventually dove UNDER the bed at worst point until it passed.
Yep chicken little and healthy respect wrapped up in one here ;D

Hoping for the best for folks in worst path of this storm.

NC Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers are traveling today to Florida to assist with Hurricane Irma relief efforts. Please keep these volunteers in your prayers. We have been asked (by Florida Baptist Disaster leaders) to set up one of our big feeding units (Unit 2- capable of doing 30,000 meals a day) in the South Miami area. We will be providing meals for people in South Florida (all the way to the Florida Keys).
