November 15th, 9:00 am - until  (you don't have to come at 9, we will be there most of the day.)

With basketball season right around the corner, and a relatively new floor to play on (although it needs some repair) a group of us are getting together to clean the gym.

This involves some scrapping of gym and scrubbing bleachers, cleaning backboard, walls, some painting.

Wear old clothes.  Bring work gloves (that can get wet), ladder if you have one.

Stay as long as you can.  We are trying hard to make this "house" something to be proud of.  Please contact me @ meg_miller@bellsouth.net if you plan to come.

We're good to go.  We've got all the paint donated and loads of cleaning supplies.

My husband has already scrapped the decades of gum off the home side (I guess we'll do the visitor side?? Huh)

Want to get ready for the new addition and a terrific basketball season.  If you have an stake in Northwood, and we all should, we hope to see you there.

SAT. @ 9 a.m.

We're ON!!

Going to be a poopie day outside so why not come to the NW gym for an hour or two and help us show off our PRIDE in our school.

With cutbacks coming this is just the sort of thing that has to have the community support because we can't pay someone to do it.

Hope to see you there.

What cutbacks?  Last night four members of the Board of Education refused to make any changes in its spending patterns of out of county travel to conferences and other meetings with the flippant comment that the funds are in the budget already.  Thus far Russell, McManus and Logan are headed to a conference in California at an estimated cost of $2,000 each. More may be added to that junket.

How much paint and cleaning supplies would $6,000 buy?  That would reimburse Moncure's PTA for the security fence it paid for around their playground but we have to go all the way to San Diego rather than get  information from the Internet or The Institute of Government in Chapel Hill.

Guess they have yet to modify their own home budgets to recognize the crunch we all are in tight now.  Besides, the BOEd budgeted money is just taxpayers' money!

Wow, I will not hijack this thread. The cleanup at the gym is commendable.   See new thread regarding Mr. Totten's post.

So very proud of the GIRLS that showed up for the gym clean up.

Not one BOY on the team, nor a Coach in sight. ( Our varisity Coach had an illness in his family, so understandably he wasn't there)

The girls that came all worked hard and the few parents even harder.  '

I'm beginning to think Charger pride just doesn't exist on a whole. Huh

The place does look better, although the paint we got did not match the green, but we're working on that.  It's cleaner.  And at least for a few players, they can
look around, have pride and say they "got it done".

Chandler was there for awhile, but had to leave with a sick kid.

We were there until 10 p.m. We'll be back again today if anyone is really bored or just feeling sorry for us suckers who dove into this blindly.

I feel it would be a great idea to do this once a year so hopefully if will never get in this shape again.  Would be great if someone would PLEASE actually CLEAN the urinals in the boys locker room (by this I mean an employee)....I run a frat house and my bathrooms stay much cleaner than these do.

Bottomline is we need new bleachers.  These are not safe, nor handicapped accessible (no stairs, no railing).

If the new high school is not going to be built anytime soon Northwood needs some MORE funding.  A practice gym.  But these are things the folks who have
a future at Northwood need to address.  I have one foot out the door, but would still like to see this school keep improving.

Flint is in office to make sure his high school is built. Once that is done he could care less what else happens to any other school in the county.
