I don't really know how much it will affect us in Chatham and Wake, but one of my buddies in the news media advised it probably will, hopefully will be taken care of prior to Thanksgiving travel

Happened to fill car and gas cans while in Siler on Sunday, as .20 gal. cheaper there vs. PBO area plus fuel rewards I do~saved in effect .35 gal..phtt and badabing! Wasn't panic purchasing on my end, just how I beat the N. Ch. rip off price a bit Wink The pipe issue had not even happened yet.
From what I observed today may be round 2 of to occur @ gas pumps/shortages...
Guarantee pipe will be fixed in time for T/Giving travel once get prices jacked up another (non-gauging) % Wink Angry

if Gov McCrory calls for a state of emergency early enough to keep fuel flowing, it may not even be an issue before supplies get low .

Fuel flowing from where?  If the pipeline is shut, it's shut.  Jayzus.

I got curious about how line 2 could be carrying jet fuel AND diesel AND so on. There's this batching process that is used:

http://www.pipeline101.com/How-Do-Pipelines-Work/What-Is-Batching

Colonial describes it as well, with a bit more explanation about transmix (the zone of blended products) http://www.colpipe.com/home/about-colonial/frequently-asked-questions .

I'm now curious about how pressure and speed of transport is maintained. Simply reducing the diameter to match the amount removed along the way seems implausible: surely there are pumping facilities along the way so what is in the line from north of the accident to the terminus could be pumped.... Colonial cites a 5 mph speed of transport in the pipeline.

HELENA, ALA. A gas pipeline that exploded in Alabama last week is back in service, the pipeline company said Sunday.

Service was restarted at 5:45 a.m. Sunday on the pipeline that transports gasoline from the Gulf Coast to New York City, according to Colonial Pipeline Co.
