There is one in the Manns Chapel area that was born this past spring. Very neat to see! The frist time I saw it crossing the road from a distance, I thought it was a goat until I saw the other deer and got closer to it. It has been our yard a time or two.

It may just be white, but not albino - the one in our neighborhood (Sugar Lake Rd) doesn't have the red eyes like an albino.

This one was good size. Albino or just white, it was beautiful! I've not given indication of specific location, as I'd hate to lead someone to hunt its head to hang on the wall There is a really cool vid on U-tube of the ghost white deer herds in Wisconsin...of course with their snow lay, blend in better This one glared like a spotlight in our brown woods!

Most hunters won't kill a white deer - it's considered to be bad luck.

It would be bad luck 'cast' if I saw someone do so... Hard enough for them I'm sure in way of predators, as they shine like a spotlight in the brown woods in winter!

Hate to say this because they are beautiful but the albino/white deer need to be disposed of. Its a sign of bad genes and or inbreeding and will mess up gene pool and cause health problems with offspring

Explain further. Are we experiencing a deer shortage?

Nativ, defective does not mean shortage. But it can mean sickly, and it can mean an EVENTUAL problem. There are places who run trophy hunts, that DEMAND in your contract with them that if the guide orders you so shoot a deer you MUST do so. They explain it is for the health of the herd. Nature is cruel and if the defects are not removed an entire populace CAN be placed at risk.
I must say it has been my understanding that very few albino deer live long enough to reproduce, but I have no evidence to back that up.

Well, I'm going to enjoy the beauty of this one while I can. Misfit in your toy shop or not! (like so much)....

Nativ, I actually agree that it is a thrill to see one. But, it is also true that it is a genetic defect. It may be an improvement, but I doubt it.

You need to drive further down the road. We have several in Redbud and last week the one with her normal twin (born last spring) were right by the edge of the road when I stopped to gawk and she definitely had red eyes. I have heard there is an antlered white buck near the border between Sugar Lake and Redbud, but I haven't seen him.
About 10 years ago we had two white deer and a piebald, but they "disappeared".
