When you're feeling slow, grab a "shot of 'spro"!

« on: February 23, 2010, 02:20:06 PM »

With planting season upon us, I am looking for someone/anyone who would like to get our used coffee grounds so I am not throwing them in the trash. I contacted the Bynum Community Gardens (Larry Crum) but never heard back. You can just pick them up from the van during our operating hours. First come, first serve.

Also, I go through countless milk jugs that I do recycle but if anyone ever needs me to save them for a project I can save them for you.

Thanks,
Tina Meeks

this is such a great idea!

good for you. Coffee grounds make great mulch, and re-using is better than recycling in my opinion, if the product is already made, just keep using it.

Are you talking about the milk jugs or the coffee grounds? I would say with either one probably 2 days a week. Tuesday afternoon and Saturday afternoon would be good but we are flexible.

I meant coffee grounds, for now, although milk jugs are excellent if you poke holes in the bottom, fill them about half up with compost, set them around the garden, then fill them the rest of hte way up with water.  Slow release compost tea!  (so long as the neighbors don't mind the look.)

Wow! I am so excited for the positive responses I have received on recycling the grounds for a greater purpose than a landfill. Since they are on a first come, first serve basis, give me a call before you come so I can let you know if there are any available to pick up. The best days would be a Tuesday and Saturday if you have to make a special trip since we'll have a buildup by then. Daily is fine too if you frequent the area. Either way, my cell # is (919) 799-1115. I wouldn't want to see you make a special trip and we already gave them away.

We are there Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri from 9 am - 6 pm; Saturday from 9 am - 4 pm and the 1st Sun from 12 - 6 pm. Generally are hours are from 8 am but we have started visiting with 3 local daycares to serve the parents and staff in the wee hours of the mornings hence the reason for the 9 am posting.

Thanks all, Tina Meeks

I have a bunch of used coffee grounds available for anyone if they want them. We will be at the Old Ford Lot from
12-6pm today.

Brilliant, hulahoop. I foresee high demand for those milk jugs.
