Had a pet 'possum that slept with us, ate from the table, went on vacations with us to the beach (picture a possum swimming in the ocean, I have pics).  Her mother was killed by a neighbor dog and all of her siblings were also killed.  She was the only survivor and her eyes were still closed.  We nursed her with formula from the vet and she lived with us like a cat for 5 years.  She was a head turner when I walked her around the neighborhood.

Becky and Shooter, do y'all sit at the same computer and post, or do you have dueling keyboards? My Tim and I email each other from upstairs/downstairs.

Kitteh Kitteh is purrtech.

No, it's the pic I took of you that one time you tried "cooking."

Kitteh is probably just curious about possum, but if possum is allowed to stay -it could get nasty. I have had this experience too many times to tell. BTW, the possum (or raccoon for that matter) will DEFINITELY use a kitty/doggie door. Bluetick could chime in on that particular possum evening.

Love this!  How cool.

lol  When I saw this posted, I wondered if you would see the thread.....

Something about women-only saturday evening on a farm, flowing wine, BB's, wide open front door, 11 (?) cats, brave possum, cat door....across the room from open front door.....

Kitteh Kitteh is a cutie pie.  If either becomes agitated, twill be an ugly, nasty fight that little sweetie may not win.

Oh My!  That sounds like quite a story.

My cats are totally bored by Mrs. Possum who comes along and eats their food at night every time I forget to put it away.

I'm sorry that I never met pet possum, cudamom.  I'm kinda creeped out by them, and getting to know one might have helped.

We also saved 13 other baby 'possums when the mother was killed (several years after "Bootsie" our first possum passed away).  We donated them to the NC Museum of Life and Science in Durham.  They raised them and took them to schools to educate children.
I'll have to dig out my 'possum pics and see if I can post them on here.

Today Our Neighbor the Vet told us that her next door neighbor had reported possums and feral kittens curled up in boxes on their back porch when she started feeding the wild kitties several years ago!

Maybe Possum and Kitteh Kitteh think they are sisters?!

The only common "denominator" is easy food access likely. Happened with a former neighbor. Kindly fed a feral cat, then had a family of Mom and 8 baby possums at the trough not long after.
Once the kitteh came to trust them and was adopted/adapted to indoor life (and feeding), no more possums.
Possum Mom and babies moved on.
