Subject: Keith Megginson
County Planner Keith Megginson has resigned. It seems odd that little has been made of the departure of the man who has been arguably the most powerful figure in the growth of Chatham County.
Although by all accounts a very nice person, Megginson left under a
cloud. His pro-development decisions in the Bunky Morgan years cost at
least one group of taxpayers more than $170,000 in legal fees proving
his wrong-doing. Chatham County even refused to defend his actions in
court, in which three Appellate judges unanimously ruled he operated
outside the law. This is the Lee Moore Oil (Kirk Bradley) rezoning case
brought by Murdock, et. al., over the County Line Plaza property on the
border with Orange County.
Recently, he was told not to even bother coming to Commissioner
meetings, who came to distrust his counsel. Meanwhile, Kirk Bradley
continues to pursue the strategy of trying to wear down the Murdocks
with oppressive legal fees by appealing the case to the NC Supreme
Court. If Megginson was truly contrite, he would mitigate the damage he
caused by making a contribution to the Murdock's legal fund.

How very disingenuous of Mark Barroso to post half-truths as facts.
Keith Megginson is retiring from his position as Director of the Chatham
County Planning Department after many years of distinguished service to
Chatham County and it's citizens. Keith has served this county well through
the years of slow growth to the present now that we are experiencing
unprecedented growth. He is extremely well versed in the complicated and complex
regulations which the planning department is charged with enforcing. Keith
has built a staff in the planning department that is both knowledgeable
and efficient as well as overworked.
Keith Megginson has served under the direction of the County Manager and
been responsive and responsible to the Board of Commissioners for many years
with virtually no complaints. This takes a special person!
Very few people in today's world have the qualities to remain in such an
important public position for the length of time, with the responsibilities
to both the BOC and the citizens of Chatham County with the grace and
dignity of Keith Megginson.

Well, we have another classy move by another Chatham Coalition bigwig, Mark Barroso.

administrator, citizen, and friend. I repudiate the venal detractions of
