Diatomaceous earth works well in my experience of ridding the house of fleas - i.e., not using on the animal directly but on inanimate objects and to prevent recurrence (once the animal has been treated). Tons of info to read out there, and if anyone is interested, be sure to get Food Grade DE for in-house use.

Does anyone know of a safe eco friendly solution that can be sprayed on the ground to kill ticks and fleas?

Ditto, myself, on asking that question, Ramona.

I know a few people who use the diatomaceous earth for all kinds of things. Fleas on the dogs themselves, deworming horses & dogs, inside houses & kennels. If using it to deworm animals, it needs to be food-grade. I have been meaning to get some for all my animals to try it out. one friend gets it from http://shadowridgedonkeys.com/ds_pg_cart.htm She says it's the best price she found for food grade DE. She deworms her horses with it, and her horses have all had clean fecals every year since she's been using it. i am also going to order Capstar from http://www.americanlivestock.com/p-789141-capstar.aspx?utm_source=streamsend&utm_medium=email&utm_content=4728621&utm_campaign=Summer%20Protection%20for%20your%20Companion%20Animals A vet gave it to a dog i was having spayed, who had fleas despite the Frontline i was using. It's a pill. It kills the little buggers right away. It doesn't keep them from going back on, but it sounds like a good thing to use to start. It says it can be used daily, but I think I'm going to use a spot-on product after killing them with the Capstar.

bluetick- which is in PBO, the DE or the Capstar? This is the first time i've seen the capstar anywhere, I got an email from American Livestock with some specials & found it.
The DE can be mixed with water & sprayed around the yard. Or sprinkled around dry.

Hm, not sure which one; read recently that they're carrying it but can't remember where I read that, either. I have to run in tomorrow so will find out and post here - if they do carry DE, will also find out options (like hopefully 40 lb. bags).
Interesting too that some companies are making anti-pest products with d.e. earth, but one may not see it easily on the label/packaging.
Recently purchased Safer brand "Ant & Crawling Insect Killer" at ACE, on the run..... It's DE in a 7 oz. container, powder. Listed with OMRI, which is good, but would only use this as a flea, ant etc. killer (i.e., not internally).

Daezey said that SS has DE. I get Capstar on the net, but PBO Feed had it last time I checked. DE kills ALL insects, so don't use it near the good bugs like bees and ladybugs. Don't spray your flowers.
